About

Brown is relaxing, safe, comforting; it draws you in and lets you stay for however long you like. The Girl in Brown is draped in this. She is honest, approachable. She tells you what you need to hear, what you didn’t know you didn’t know. Reading her words is like having a conversation with a friend.

I am the Girl in Brown.

My vision for this page centers fashion and young creatives, particularly Black people, but while this is the focus, I am not bound by only this. I want to present a full version of myself. I reject any restrictions; I am whole, and I am multifaceted, and I am very human. I want to write to chronicle and share my journey through life, as well as into the realm of fashion.

Sometimes, more and more recently, the world feels unfathomably expansive. There grows an entire universe in my mind that extends endlessly in all directions and suddenly I can’t reach anything. But art, somehow, grounds me in a way that still allows me to float. I want to extend that haven of stability to those who visit me here. At the very least, I want people to feel like they have a friend in the Girl in Brown.

To be a Black, African woman, and find yourself in spaces you’ve been kept out of is a rebellion. The space I’ll take up here is a rebellion. I hope you find it comforting.
